Her story

Zacharia has a background in law, Republican politics, television commentary and strategic communications, including professional experience in China. As a Pepperdine law student, she interned at the White House during President George W. Bush's administration. After law school, she worked at a law firm in Beijing. She also worked with Compassion for Migrant Children, a nonprofit focused on the welfare and education of children of migrant workers in China.

Back in the United States, her career cut across law, media and conservative politics. She served as general counsel for Fix California, a conservative advocacy organization founded by Trump ally Richard Grenell. From 2023 to 2025 she was director of development for special projects at Pepperdine. She became a familiar face on conservative television, appearing as a commentator on Fox News and Newsmax.

Path to the briefing room

She previously served as a spokesperson and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs for the US Department of Homeland Security before transitioning to her role as a senior communications advisor at Trump Media & Technology Group. Trump Media & Technology Group runs President Trump's Truth Social website. Trump noted that Zacharia was also involved in his campaigns, "assisting in key swing states."

He announced she would begin her term on Columbus Day and hold an introductory news conference the following Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Press Briefing Room. Zacharia faced reporters for the first time Tuesday for a very brief turn at the lectern, taking a handful of questions before wrapping up after 14 minutes, telling reporters they could go ask the president their questions on the South Lawn.

In a post on X, Zacharia called the appointment "the honor of a lifetime." She told reporters her goal is to "amplify" what Trump is doing and that the president is "his own best spokesperson."
