I feel stuck in life. What should I change first?
The first thing to change is not a circumstance, it is the question you are asking yourself every morning.
Here's the answer from Mary's digital twin. The gray check mark turns green once Mary has confirmed it.
From "stuck" to "where is the next foothold"
Stuck is a feeling, not a fact. It tells you something has stopped moving, but it does not tell you what to move first. That distinction matters, because people who feel stuck tend to reach for the biggest lever available, quit everything, move cities, start over, when the actual problem is usually smaller and closer.
Start here: what is one thing in your current life that is working, even partially? A skill, a relationship, a kind of problem you are good at solving. Stuck people almost always have more transferable material than they realise. The goal is not to erase what you have and rebuild from zero. It is to find what already moves and apply pressure there.
The thing that usually unlocks first is clarity, not action
Most people who feel stuck are not under-acting. They are under-deciding. They have options they have not committed to, directions they are half-pursuing, and the friction of that ambiguity reads as paralysis.
Pick one direction, not the perfect one, just a real one, and follow it with enough focus that you get feedback. Feedback is what unsticks you. You cannot steer a parked car.
If you genuinely cannot identify a direction, that is information too. It usually means you have been optimising for safety or other people's definitions of progress for long enough that you have lost track of what you actually want. The fix for that is not a grand gesture. It is small experiments, tried honestly, with enough attention to notice what energises you versus what just gets done.
One practical move
Write down the one thing you keep putting off because it feels too small to matter. Not the big dream, the small, concrete thing. The conversation you have not had, the skill you keep meaning to start, the offer you have not made.
Do that this week. Not because it solves everything, but because motion changes how you see what is possible. The people who stay stuck are almost always waiting for certainty before they move. Certainty comes after the move, not before it.
Follow-ups
You're not the only one rebuilding right now.
