How do I package years of knowledge into something people can use?

Most knowledge stays locked up not because people are selfish but because they keep trying to share all of it at once. A book, a course, a framework — these feel like the right containers, and they are also the containers that take eighteen months to build and reach three people.

Start with the problem, not the knowledge

Your knowledge is the answer. Before you package anything, you need to name the question it answers for someone else. Twenty years in a field means you have absorbed thousands of patterns, but the person across from you only has one problem right now. Find that problem. The packaging follows from it.

Ask yourself: what do people who know me already come to me for? What do I explain in ten minutes that saves someone three months? That specific thing is where you start — not the comprehensive version, the useful version.

The smallest useful unit is the right unit

One observation, written clearly, is more useful than a course nobody finishes. One process, documented so someone else can run it, is more useful than a framework nobody can apply. The instinct is to be thorough because you know how much nuance there is. That instinct will bury you.

Pick the single most expensive mistake people make in your field. Write down how to avoid it. That is a product. That is a conversation starter. That is the thing that earns you the right to share the rest.

The test for whether it is packaged well

Hand it to someone who does not already respect you. If they can act on it without asking you a follow-up question, it is packaged. If they come back confused, the problem is not their comprehension — it is that you are still speaking the internal language of someone who already knows everything you know.

Years of knowledge do not lose value when you make them simple. They become available for the first time.
